Speaker Bagbin Congratulates UG Vice-Chancellor on Election as ACU Council Chair

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has extended warm congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, following her election as Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

In a statement released by the Media Directorate of Parliament, the Speaker described the appointment as a significant milestone that reflects Prof. Amfo’s distinguished career and international standing.

Speaker Bagbin lauded Prof. Amfo’s extensive background, noting that her elevation to the global stage is a result of her dedicated service to academia.

The appointment, announced by the ACU Head Office in London on January 8, 2026, follows her earlier induction into the Governing Council in August 2024. The Speaker emphasized that this rapid ascent highlights her proven leadership and the global recognition she commands.

The Speaker affirmed that the Parliament of Ghana takes immense pride in her achievement. He expressed unwavering confidence in her ability to lead the Council toward its mission of leveraging higher education as a catalyst for sustainable development and societal change.
