A powerful testament to visionary leadership took center stage in the Kassena Nankana West District as the Sirigu Integrated Senior High School officially launched its 25th-anniversary celebrations.
The vibrant launch, held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, brought together students, staff, alumni, and traditional leaders to honour a rich academic legacy while aggressively charting a course for future structural and educational development.
The extraordinary origin of the school remains a proud anchor for the local community.
While traditional leaders during the era of the late President Jerry John Rawlings often petitioned the state for material wealth like vehicles, land, or financial handouts, the late Paramount Chief, Naba Adumbire Akwara, chose a radically different path during a historic presidential visit.
He selflessly pleaded for a senior high school to break the cycle of poverty and illuminate the minds of the youth in Sirigu.
That singular, humble request twenty-five years ago birthed an institution that has since become a crucial beacon of academic excellence in the Upper East Region.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, the Headmaster of the school, John Nyaaba Atimbila, delivered an inspiring goodwill message that challenged the entire school community to rise to the responsibilities ahead.
He reminded stakeholders that the launch is merely the prelude to the grand anniversary celebration slated for November 2026, which will serve as a rallying point to enhance educational opportunities for future generations.

The high-profile event drew several notable speakers, including former and current regional directors of education, devoted teaching and non-teaching staff, proud alumni, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kassena Nankana West, Stephen Aeke Akurungo.
Taking the podium, Mr. Akurungo issued a stern, uncompromising warning to final-year students regarding discipline, urging them to protect the integrity of the institution.
“As DCE, I will not tolerate any misbehaviour that brings a bad name to our community,” Mr. Akurungo warned firmly. “Those who disrupt peace will be dealt with individually according to school regulations.”
Beyond the historical reflections, the launch doubled as an aggressive fundraising appeal aimed at tackling the school’s ongoing and future developmental projects.

The call to action received overwhelming support, with local women’s groups, assembly members, traditional chiefs, and queen mothers pledging substantial resources to ensure the school’s long-term vision is fully realized.
As Sirigu Integrated Senior High School proudly celebrates a quarter-century of student empowerment and academic triumph, the entire community is now looking forward to the main November festivities.
The upcoming grand event is expected to draw major national dignitaries, all united under a single mission: celebrating past milestones while engineering sustainable solutions for the school’s future infrastructure needs.
