The Upper East Regional Branch of the Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners has donated food items and cash to the Mother of Mercy Babies Home at Sirigu in the Kassena-Nankana West District as part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to supporting vulnerable children.
The donation, which included a bag of rice, a bag of maize, a bag of sugar, a gallon of cooking oil, biscuits, assorted drinks, Key Soap, and GH¢1,000 in cash, was aimed at supporting the upkeep of the children and the day-to-day operations of the orphanage.
Presenting the items, the Chairman of the Upper East Regional Branch of the Society, Dr. Aduko Amiah, said the gesture reflected the association’s desire to put smiles on the faces of the children while complementing the efforts of the home in providing quality care.
“We are here today at the Mother of Mercy Babies Home in Sirigu to present our widow’s mite to support the orphanage.
Though this contribution is modest, we believe it will go a long way in assisting the home in caring for the children.
This is not the end of our support—we will certainly return to assist them again,” he said.
Dr. Amiah expressed the hope that the donation would help improve the welfare of the children and encourage the management to continue its important work of caring for abandoned and vulnerable children.
Speaking during the visit, the Secretary of the Society, Dr. Abdul-Razak Dokurungu of New Joy Medical Centre, explained that the outreach formed part of activities leading to the Society’s upcoming Annual General Conference.
He noted that beyond providing healthcare services, the Society remains committed to giving back to the communities in which its members operate.
“As a society, we are committed not only to providing healthcare but also to giving back to the communities in which we operate. That is why we are here today—not only to donate but also to conduct free health screening for the children,” he stated.
As part of the outreach, the medical team conducted free health screening for the children, examining them for eye conditions, checking their vision and blood pressure, and carrying out general medical assessments. Dr. Dokurungu indicated that children requiring further medical attention would be referred for appropriate follow-up care in collaboration with the management of the home.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Mother of Mercy Babies Home, the Officer-in-Charge, Rev. Sr. Delfina, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Society for what she described as a timely and thoughtful gesture.
“We are delighted to receive you today. Your donation has come at the right time. On behalf of the children, staff, and management of the home, we sincerely thank you for your kindness and generosity. May God richly bless you all,” she said.
The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality healthcare and supporting vulnerable members of society through regular community outreach and charitable initiatives across the Upper East Region.
