Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has publicly commended Chief of Staff Julius Debrah for what he described as unprecedented support for the development of sports in Ghana.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championship in Accra, the Sports Minister lauded Mr. Debrah’s commitment to the sector, describing his level of involvement and encouragement as unmatched compared to previous Chief of Staffs the country has had.

“Hon. Julius Debrah is someone I’m very pleased to work with. Indeed, we have had many Chief of Staffs in this country, but this one is very different when it comes to supporting sports,” Hon. Adams stated to loud applause from athletes, sports officials, and invited dignitaries.

The Minister noted that since assuming office, he has enjoyed immense cooperation and backing from the Chief of Staff, which has significantly contributed to the work of the Ministry and efforts aimed at repositioning Ghana’s sports sector.

“I have really enjoyed a lot of support from him,” he added, while calling on stakeholders within the sporting fraternity to rally behind the government’s agenda to transform sports development in the country.

Hon. Adams also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for delegating Mr. Debrah to represent him at the opening ceremony of the continental championship.

The 2026 African Senior Athletics Championship, currently underway in Accra, has brought together some of the continent’s finest athletes and sports administrators in a celebration of excellence, unity, and regional cooperation through athletics.
