Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, has been elected First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), marking a significant rise for the former commander of the pro-NPP Delta Force group.
Kojo Bamba emerged top in a competitive race involving 13 candidates at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
He secured 3,116 votes, placing him ahead of former Information Minister and NPA Boss Mustapha Hamid, who polled 2,956 votes, and the other contenders.
His election forms part of the NPP’s reshaping of its national leadership as the opposition party prepares for the 2028 general elections. The Electoral Commission supervised the voting.
Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, was elected Second Vice Chairman with 3,061 votes, while Nana Akomea secured the Third Vice Chairman position with 2,987 votes.
Kojo Bamba is a former commander of the Delta Force, a pro-NPP vigilante group that was active in the party’s political activities before it was disbanded.
He is also known to have served as a bodyguard to Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, during Nana B’s tenure as National Organiser of the NPP.
The outcome therefore places Kojo Bamba and his former associate, Nana B, in two of the party’s key national vice-chairmanship positions.
The vice-chairmanship contest was one of nine national executive elections held at the conference, which brought together thousands of delegates to elect a leadership team expected to steer the NPP towards the 2028 elections.
The new First Vice Chairman will work alongside National Chairman John Boadu, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua and other elected executives as the party seeks to reorganise its structures and rebuild ahead of the next general election.
The election of the three vice chairmen followed the existing arrangement under which candidates contested a common vice-chairmanship race, with the top three candidates becoming First, Second and Third Vice Chairmen respectively.
