The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has authorised the release of GH¢370,000 from his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of some badly deteriorated roads in the constituency.
The intervention, according to the MP’s office, is intended to ease transportation difficulties, improve mobility and facilitate access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services while broader government interventions are being pursued.
Dr Apaak had earlier released GH¢50,000 for emergency works on sections of the Uwasi–Fumbisi and Zamsa–Fumbisi roads following concerns from residents, farmers, traders and transport operators over the worsening condition of the routes.
Under the latest intervention, funds have been allocated to several critical roads, including the Doninga–Kanjarga Road, Doninga–Siniensi Road, Uwasi–Fumbisi Road, Kanjarga–Fumbisi Road, Nyambisa Road and Bridge, and the Wiesi–Fumbisi Road.
The MP’s office said the combined intervention, including the earlier GH¢50,000 release, brings the total amount committed to road rehabilitation and maintenance in the constituency to GH¢370,000.
Dr Apaak said his decision followed firsthand observations of the difficulties residents and businesses face as a result of the poor road network.
“During my visit to the constituency, I saw firsthand the difficulties residents, farmers, and traders go through on these roads, and I listened carefully to their concerns,” he said.
“Good roads are essential for development. They connect our people to opportunities, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities. While major road projects remain the responsibility of central government agencies, I believe it is important to utilise available resources to address some of the immediate challenges facing our communities.”
He added that the intervention demonstrated his commitment to improving accessibility and supporting the socio-economic development of Builsa South.
Dr Apaak is also engaging the government, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority and the Department of Feeder Roads to secure more comprehensive and sustainable solutions to the constituency’s road challenges.
He is also pushing for faster work on the Builsa South section of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road, where a contractor is already working.
The MP’s office said the Doninga–Sandema Road, which is also reported to be in poor condition, is expected to receive attention soon, with a contractor expected to move to site.
Dr Apaak is further encouraging the Minister for Roads and Highways to prioritise the rehabilitation of feeder roads across Builsa South.
The interventions are expected to improve mobility, reduce transportation difficulties and costs, facilitate trade and strengthen access to essential services for communities across the constituency.
The MP’s office expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, assembly members, community leaders, transport operators and residents for their cooperation and continued support towards the development of Builsa South.
