The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has launched its maiden edition of Ghana Utility Performance Index (GUPI) for 2021 at the campus of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Legon in Accra.<\/strong>
GUPI is an aggregated performance index which is computed to assess the performance of electricity and water across the operational areas across the country will facilitate also peer learning and productivity among regional operating areas of the country\u2019s utility services.
It is against these background that regulated utility service providers are challenged to take the exercise seriously to bring to bear excellence in service delivery to cherish customers in their respective jurisdictions.
At the launch on the sidelines of the inauguration of GIMPA-PURC Centre of Excellence in Public Utility Regulation (CEPUR) under the theme \u201cProfessionalism in the Utility Sector, Key to Africa\u2019s Development, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah said the commission have developed one year working plan for utility efficiency saying \u201cit is an important working intervention in the public utility space and also an effort to exhibit best practices in the utility value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, GUPI will further create a platform for players in the utility service sector to discuss and deliberate on the emerging dynamics and issues among each other.
\u201cThe roll out of GUPI will consequently challenge the management of the Commission to also embark on familiarisation and working visits to have first-hand information and an insight about the operations within the regional utility offices across the country\u201d, he said, adding that it is for the said reasons that the PURC have initiated steps to introduce GUPI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis laudable performance index will create an opportunity for PURC to benchmark operations in the utility sectors in their various regions\u201d, he said and explained fervently that the move will also help in reducing the periodic increase in utility tariffs.
He however commended all players in the utility service sector for the inputs and commitments demonstrated for making GUPI a reality and a successful working document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
