The Member of Parliament for Daffiama\/Bussie\/Issa, Dr. Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare has summoned the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources to parliament over the acute water shortage in the constituency.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, residents in Bussie, Issa, Fian, and Kojokperi crumble in rivers and streams in search of water due to a lack of access to potable drinking water.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. \u00a0Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources when the following communities will be provided with small town water hole systems as part of the Government’s “Water for All” Agenda: (i) Bussie (ii) Fian (iii) Issa (iv) Kojokperi?\u201d, the MP quizzed the sector Minister.<\/p>\n

The sector Minister, Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah said the Bussie community with a population of 4,018 relied on seven boreholes fitted with handpumps for water supply.<\/p>\n

According to her, the design for a Small-Town Water System for Bussie was carried out in 2020 and the system is estimated to cost Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 10,000,000.00).<\/p>\n

The system’s major components will include the Mechanization of three boreholes as water source Construction of 200m\u00b3 elevated concrete tanks.<\/p>\n

However, she said, funds are being sought to undertake the project as there has been laying of about 18.0 kilometers of HDPE transmission and distribution pipe networks Construction of fourteen Standpipes and the Construction of a Water System Management Office.<\/p>\n

She noted that Issa, the capital of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District with a population of 2,696 relied on eleven boreholes fitted with handpumps for water supply, just like Bussie, the design for a Small-Town Water.<\/p>\n

She said the Estimated System for Issa was completed in 2020 and the system to cost Fourteen Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 14,000,000.00).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe design covers Issa, Wogu, Tabiase, Legri, and Seboge communities in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District. Laying of about 17.5 kilometers of HDPE transmission and distribution pipe networks. Construction of fourteen Standpipes. Construction of Water System Management Office,\u201d saying, funding is being sought to undertake the project.<\/p>\n

On the Fian and Kojoperi communities with population sizes of 3,434 and 2,740 respectively, the Minister relied on five boreholes each fitted with handpumps for water supply.<\/p>\n

The Minister said the Ministry, through the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, would assess the yields of the existing boreholes and mechanize a number of them to meet the water supply demand when funds are secured through the various initiatives the Ministry is working at.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Dr Sandaare urged the Minister to expedite action on the water projects to reduce the acute water shortage situation in the area.<\/p>\n
