{"id":11239,"date":"2023-05-15T13:58:24","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T13:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=11239"},"modified":"2023-05-15T13:58:24","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T13:58:24","slug":"govt-left-akatsi-south-hospital-project-to-rot-doctors-cries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=11239","title":{"rendered":"Govt left Akatsi South Hospital Project To Rot-Doctors Cries \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Doctors and nurses\u2019 bungalows, boys\u2019 quarters, theatre, and mortuary are on the verge of destruction at the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The project, which started in 2012 under the erstwhile John Mahama\u2019s National Democratic Congress-led administration, has since been left in the bush uncompleted.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mawuli Asimenu, the administrator of the hospital, made this known during a visit of members of the Volta and Oti Chapter of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to assess the extent of challenges affecting the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Asimenu, on his part, said the abandoned project is overgrown with bushes and remained unattended for years, with the weather dictating the pace of destruction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese projects were there before the majority of the health workers were transferred to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Julius Patamia, the Volta and Oti Regional Secretary of the GMA, after the tour, said the visit was to ascertain the level of damage the hospital suffered some months ago after a fire outbreak.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11240\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/akatsi-1-300x174.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/akatsi-1-300x174.webp 300w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/akatsi-1-600x348.webp 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/akatsi-1.webp 730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said it was their duty to keep monitoring and championing the good welfare of their members as well as their working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Patamia disclosed that most of the facilities in the hospital posed a danger to the workers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main problem here is inadequate accommodation and l cannot believe that this big hospital has no mortuary facility. Urgent steps ought to be taken in this regard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr Patamia also cautioned members of the public to desist from politicising the project, adding \u201cthe health of our people in the Municipality is more important than politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the provision of accommodation for doctors, nurses and other health workers at the hospital would help attract more health workers as well as the need to control emergencies.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/citinewsroom.com\/2023\/05\/imf-likely-to-approve-first-600m-tranche-for-ghana-by-wednesday\/\">\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr Patamia urged the government to complete the abandoned hospital facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors and nurses\u2019 bungalows, boys\u2019 quarters, theatre, and mortuary are on the verge of destruction at the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital.
