The Member of Parliament for Dormaa West Constituency, Hon Vincent Oppong Asamoah has expressed optimistic James Gakye Quayson will retain the Assin North parliamentary seat despite money being openly shared by the New Patriotic Party(NPP) at the ongoing by-election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the electorates of Assin North will teach the governing party a lesson by the end of the polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Asamoah was speaking to Journalists in parliament on Tuesday morning after parliament took early adjournment following the by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he was in the Assin North, few days ago and had to return to Accra for an equally important national assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, the MP said Gakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has been accusation and counter-accusation by the two leading political parties, the NDC and the NPP, over the monetization and buying of votes in ahead of the by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Vincent Oppong who is the Ranking Member of the Works and Housing Committee of Parliament said the voters would not give in to vote buying, but rather pocket the money of politicians and vote their conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed confidence that the NDC and Gakye Quayson would emerge victorious in the by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the impression he gathered at Assin North, indicated that Gakye Quayson is loved by the people due to his hard work and would not be surprised if, at the end of polls, he is declared elected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Asamoah said the NDC campaigns were thorough, and detailed, adding that \u201cI am sure we are going to win, again.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He however urged the electorate to follow their conscience in choosing the right leaders, claiming that the era of vote buying is extinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the Majority Leader, Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said whoever wins Assin North would win by a slim margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the situation in Assin North is unpredictable but expressed confidence the NPP will win but with a little margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He admitted there has been monetization in our politics, but believed the two parties, NPP and NDC are guilty of the vote-buying crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The by-election occasioned by the Supreme Court ruling, nullifying Gakye Quayson election in 2020, due to the late receipt of his Canadian citizenship renunciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Quayson is now contested by one Charles Opoku of the NPP, and Liberal Party of Ghana\u2019s (LPG) candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The voting is expected to end at 5pm today for the electoral commission to count and declare the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
