The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sawla\/Tuna\/Kalba Constituency, Hon Andrew Dari Chiwitey has accused President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of running a discriminatory administration capable of fueling political resentment across the country<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to him, the government is not sharing the development cake equally as communities in his constituency have been left without connectivity to the national grid since 2017.<\/p>\n

Hon Chiwitey made this known after he posed a question to the Minister for Energy on the floor of parliament on Thursday, June 29, 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Energy whether there are any plans to complete the Kpankpansuga (Gindabo) electrification project which was started years ago?\u201d, the lawmaker quizzed the Minister.<\/p>\n

In response, a Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon William Owuraku Aidoo said the Kpankpansuga (Gindabo) community is not on the list of the Ministry’s ongoing electrification projects.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThe community has been noted and will be considered for connection to the national electricity grid in subsequent phases of the electrification programme.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Hon Chiwitey expressed his disappointment with the Minister\u2019s response to his question as it appeared the government does not count his constituents as part of Ghanaians deserving a fair share of the national cake.<\/p>\n

He told EXPRESSNEWSGHANA,<\/em><\/strong> the response by the Minister has been the same since 2017 and that, it is obvious the government is discriminating in the distribution of the national resources, saying that, in his conversation with his colleagues MPs in the governing party (NPP),\u00a0 they confirmed of having had between 15 to 40 communities connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n

This, Hon Chiwitey said he has lost trust in the government as the Energy Minister promised many but delivered none and reminded the Minister that the distribution of the country\u2019s resources should be done evenly to benefit all irrespective of where one was located.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all taxpayers; the people of Kpankpansuga also pay tax like any other Ghanaian, so why are others getting and not getting the electricity supply?\u00a0 The government must distribute the country\u2019s resources must stop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Economically, he said, the community which is predominantly a farming area helps contribute to the food basket of the country but the residents lack access to electricity to improve upon their living standards, nothing that, the delay in supplying power to the community is affecting businesses as locals who engage in brisk business and sells at night could not operate.<\/p>\n

He added that schoolchildren in the community are equally denied the opportunity to study at night as compared to their colleagues in other places with lights.<\/p>\n

\u201d My people need electricity connectivity to improve upon their businesses. People who are into processing farm produce, cold stores, and drinking spots, among other businesses are idle.<\/p>\n

\u201cSchool children cannot study at night. They cannot do their homework and all these will greatly affect the development of this community,\u201d Hon Chiwitey said.<\/p>\n
