The Member of Parliament for Suaman Constituency, Hon Joseph Betino has dragged the Minister of Energy to Parliament over the non-supply of electricity to over four communities in the constituency.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, the communities which are predominantly farming areas help contribute to the food basket of the country but the residents lack access to electricity to improve their living standards.<\/p>\n

Hon Betino said connecting the communities to the national grid would help the economic activities of the residents and ultimately increase government revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Energy what steps taken to ensure that the following communities also get their share of the rural electrification project: Asempanaye, Samanga , Tarlorkromand\u00a0 Mensakrom?\u201d, the MP asked.<\/p>\n

In answer to the question, a Deputy Minister for Energy, William Owuraku Aidoo said even though the communities do not form part of any of the Ministry\u2019s ongoing projects, they will be factored for the next phase.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cThe communities do not form part of any of the Ministry\u2019s ongoing electrification projects. The communities have been noted and will be considered for connection to the National Grid in the subsequent phases of the electrification programme when funds are available,\u201d Mr. Owuraku Aidoo told Parliament last week.<\/p>\n

But Betino expressed his disappointment with the Minister\u2019s answers and said the absence of electricity supply to the four communities is affecting local businesses and the standard of education.<\/p>\n

He told EXRESSNEWSGHANA<\/em><\/strong>, the \u00a0Four communities are the only communities that are not hooked onto power, adding that it takes only a pole or two for the government to tap power from the nearby communities and wondered why the Ministry is delaying.<\/p>\n

The MP noted that the non-supply of power to the communities is not only driving potential local businesses away but is also affecting students learning as students in affected communities could not learn at night to improve their quality of studies.<\/p>\n

He called for speedy action, stating that despite the country’s interventions, several communities still lack access to electricity, leaving many unscrupulous persons to resort to theft and robbery.<\/p>\n
