The Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu-Senya West, Hon Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui has dragged the Minister of Roads and Highways to parliament over the delay in completing of various road projects in the Constituency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

According to her, the delay in completing the projects is affecting economic activities in the area as the roads become unmotorable whenever its rains.<\/p>\n

Hon Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui said this when he posed a question to the Minister for Roads and Highways on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 21, 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, I rise to ask the Minister for Roads and Highways the cause of the delay in the completion of the following roads: (i) Awutu Town Roads (ii) Bontrase-Ayiresu Road (iii) Obrachire Town Road (iv) Bawjiase Town Roads?\u201d, she quizzed the sector Minister.<\/p>\n

The MP said the situation has affected residents so much that all, especially motorists can no longer get to their destination, stressing that, the continued delay of completing the roads would affect businesses down and her people continued to suffer.<\/p>\n

In response, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon Kwesi Amoako Atta, said the Awutu Breku and Bawjiase town roads are partially engineered and are earth-surface roads in poor condition.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Awutu Breku town road is \u00a06.85km long and Bawjiase town roads is 7.5km long, \u00a0were awarded under the project titled \u201cBitumen Surfacing of Awutu Breku and Bawjiase Town Roads covering a total of 14.35km.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, the contract was awarded on 6th October 2016 and commenced on 6th September 2017 for completion by 5th March 2019 which was revised to 13th October 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is being funded by the Ghana Road Fund. Works executed to date are; Clearing \u2013 3.5km completed Concrete U-drains – 3.8km completed Pipe Culverts 1\/1200mm – 2No. Completed Progress of work is 15% Contractor is not on site,\u201d Hon Amoako Atta said.<\/p>\n

The contract, the Minister said has been recommended for termination after the Contractor failed to heed to the issuance of two warning letters to return to the site.<\/p>\n

He explained that the Bontrase \u2013 Ayiresu Road, Obrachire Town Road, and Bawjiase town roads were awarded for rehabilitation under the contract titled \u201cRehabilitation of Bawjiase Town Roads (5.2km)\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Minister added that the project commenced on 14th September 2020 for completion by 23rd September 2022 which was extended to 22nd April 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe roads to be constructed under the contract include Opei Abbey – Solomon Quaye Junction, Bawjiase 2.3km \u00d8 Y-Junction – Ayensu Starch Factory Road, Bawjiase (1.4km) \u00d8 Bontrase \u2013 Ayiresu (Akpetehie Factory Road 0.7km \u00d8 Obrachire Senior High School Roads 0.8km,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n

He said the Contractor has since begun working by Clearing and Demolition, Concrete Works, and Earthworks, but admitted the slow progress of works to delayed payment of work done so far.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless,\u00a0 the Minister noted that the Contractor is on site and undertaking drainage works on Obrachire Senior High School Roads, and the progress of work is estimated at 22 percent complete.<\/p>\n

he assured the MP and the people of Awutu-Senya West that, the government of President Akufo-Addo government is on course and would ensure the road projects are completed for the benefit of the people.<\/p>\n
