The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has secured the bid to host the 3rd Africa Media Convention. The Convention is scheduled to take place in May 2024.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The African Media Convention is a moment of reflection by African media stakeholders on the revolving trends that impede freedom of expression and freedom of the media, most significantly, the persistent deterioration of these rights on the continent. It is also an opportunity to recognise those countries and institutions that promote freedom of expression as provided for in various African Union human rights instruments and to raise awareness among political actors on the benefits of a climate conducive to freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

The feat, according to the GJA is testament to the relentless efforts of its executives with support from the government and UNESCO. The GJA secured the bid during the previous Africa Media Convention in Lusaka, Zambia, held last May.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the biggest gathering of the media fraternity in Africa supported by the African Union and UNESCO, the Convention will lead hundreds of participants from Africa and across the world to Accra next year, which will also mark the 60th\u00a0anniversary of the AU.\u00a0\u00a0The Convention brings together media experts, scholars,\u00a0 Diplomats, students, journalists, journalists\u2019 unions and associations, editors, and public and private sector, including cooperating partners from around the African continent and beyond as well as representatives from UNESCO and the African Union Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n

These sentiments were contained in a speech delivered by the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, at a forum to mark the first anniversary of the current GJA administration, held at the British Council Hall, Accra, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

Mr. Dwumfuor explained that hosting the conference presents an opportunity to show Ghana\u2019s potential to the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope to take advantage of the event to showcase the best of Ghana\u2019s media and other endowments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President of the GJA also stated that the current administration is hoping to leave a legacy by taking the GJA Awards to extraordinary heights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 26th GJA Awards was a momentous occasion that took place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City last year. The Awards is the largest gathering of Ghanaian journalists whose works in the previous year were recognized in a colourful style. This year, we intend to raise the bar, so expect the finest from the Legacy administration.\u201d<\/p>\n
