The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency, \u00a0Hon Theresa Lardi Awuni has said her administration as lawmaker for the area would continue to give priority to education in the constituency to ensure meaningful development.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to her, her administration has expended huge investment in education in the last two to three years and she remained committed.<\/p>\n

Speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA,<\/em><\/strong> after supporting students who partake in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination with Mathematical Sets and other writing materials, Hon Theresa maintained that education is one of the cardinal responsibilities of her administration, saying it is a social debt to the people.<\/p>\n

Education, she stated is the only way of escaping poverty, which alarmed her administration at inception with the deplorable condition of things in the Constituency, especially in terms of roads, buildings, and other essential facilities connected to a conducive learning environment.<\/p>\n

She said \u201cThis informed my resolve to change the narrative by immediately commencing a gradual, radical, and systematic implementation of the constituency MP Support to all students from Basic to the territory level.<\/p>\n

At least, a total of 1749 candidates from over 30 schools, comprising males and females took part in the 2023 BECE within the Okaikwei North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n

Hon \u00a0Theresa explained that education empowers people and transforms lives, stating,\u201d None of us here could ever imagine what our lives and those of our children would be without education.\u00a0 Education gives people hope, confidence, and dignity. \u00a0It equips them with the knowledge and skills to escape poverty. \u00a0It saves lives and reduces the spread of preventable diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n

This, she underscored the need for investing in education, emphasizing that, every cedi spent in quality education generates strong positive returns for our national economy, adding that, with unemployment rising so dramatically, we need, more than ever, to invest in relevant education.<\/p>\n

She added that education also served as the foundation for a more peaceful and sustainable future as it influenced people\u2019s attitudes and behaviours, saying, \u201cEducation is a key channel for better mutual understanding, tolerance and respect for each other and our community.<\/p>\n

As a result, Hon Theresa said she had to release funds to support the completion of some major education programmes and projects which had been abandoned for almost years due to lack of funds, as part of her administration\u2019s intervention to boost quality education.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker commended the teaching and non-teaching staff of the schools for their special passion, commitment, and magnanimity that made the education of their pupil a reality for the benefit of the entire people of the Okaikwei North.<\/p>\n

While congratulating the graduating students and their parents, Hon Theresa charged the BECE candidates to see the examination as the beginning of their academic career and urged them to go out and exhibit the glowing tendencies they adopted while at the basic school.<\/p>\n

She further encouraged the pupils to eschew anti-social activities that have the tendency of derailing their future of becoming important citizens.<\/p>\n
