The Minority Leader of Parliament, Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has cautioned the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah to act diligently and ensure the limited voter registration process goes on smoothly devoid of issues to disenfranchised citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said there has received numerous reports from his Constituency, Ellembele in the Western Region, regarding malfunctioning registration kits.<\/p>\n

According to him, the ongoing limited voter registration exercise across the country is a national duty to register every citizen qualified under Article 42 of the Constitution to be registered.<\/p>\n

Hon Buah who is a Member of Parliament for Ellembele said, over 200 people as at 2pm on Tuesday, September 12, were stranded in his constituency due to the fact that some have to travel for over 45 kilometres to the District office of the EC.<\/p>\n

He said these challenges vindicates the concerns of the NDC to have the registration done at the electoral areas level to reduce overcrowding and long queues.<\/p>\n

Hon Buah said even though it has not been publicly said by the EC of the causes of the challenges, the Commission should let Parliament know if it has to do with financial challenges.
\n“I am also calling on the EC to let parliament know if inadequate funding is the reason for limiting registration to only EC\u2019s district offices. Because as we speak, there has not been any public statement of lack of funds as the reason for limiting the registration at the EC offices.<\/p>\n
