Nigeria\u2019s newly appointed\u00a0<\/strong>Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has taken over the chairmanship of Shelter Afrique\u2019s Annual General Meeting (AGM) Bureau from his predecessor\u00a0<\/strong>Babatunde Raji Fashola<\/strong>, SAN, CON.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hon.\u00a0Fashola\u00a0took over the Bureau chairmanship from Zimbabwe\u2019s\u00a0Minister for National Housing and Social Amenities, Hon. Daniel Garwe, at the Company\u2019s 42nd<\/sup>\u00a0Annual General Meeting held in May this year, in Abuja – Nigeria.\u00a0 Arc. Dangiwa took over from\u00a0Hon.\u00a0Fashola\u00a0following his appointment to head the\u00a0Minister for Housing and Urban Development by the new administration.<\/p>\n

As the new AGM bureau chairman. Arc. Dangiwa\u2019s first task will be to chair Shelter Afrique\u2019s\u00a0Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)\u00a0scheduled to take place from 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0-6th October 2023 at\u00a0Centre International de Conferences\u00a0(CIC) in Algiers, Algeria, where shareholders are expected to approve the revised Statutes of the Institution.\u00a0He will also be\u00a0responsible for ensuring the success of the Company\u2019s 43rd<\/sup>\u00a0AGM scheduled for next year in Kigali, Rwanda.<\/p>\n

Arc. Dangiwa is deputized by Rwanda\u2019s Minister for Infrastructure, Dr. Ernest Nsabimana and Mr. Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Algeria\u2019s Minister for Housing, Urban Planning and City. Algeria is also scheduled to host Shelter Afrique.<\/p>\n

Key undertakings<\/strong><\/p>\n

Welcoming Arc. Dangiwa, Shelter Afrique\u2019s Board Chairperson Dr. Chii Akporji, assured the Minister of the support by the Board of Directors, the Management, and the Staff of Shelter Afrique, adding that the team was looking forward to working closely with his Office to ensure the success of his tenure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have briefed Arc. Dangiwa on Shelter Afrique\u2019s operations in Nigeria including the historic Naira-denominated bond which debuted early last year. We have also briefed the Minister on other key undertakings within the Organization – including the Statutes Revision Process, which we would like to seek his strong support for the approval of the Agreement document. This is necessary for consolidating the gains made so far in placing Shelter Afrique on a solid path to growth,\u201d Dr. Akporji added.<\/p>\n

Dr. Akporji also noted that the Company was seeking the Minister\u2019s intervention for the Government of Nigeria to meet its outstanding capital subscription of US$21 million obligations, which was approved by the previous administration but hadn\u2019t been released by the end of its tenure.<\/p>\n

Nigeria is currently the second largest shareholder of Shelter Afrique after Kenya.<\/p>\n

Shelter-Afrique is a Pan-African housing finance and development institution established by African Governments to address the need for a sustainable housing delivery system and related infrastructure projects in Africa.<\/p>\n

The Institution provides financial solutions and related services to support the supply and demand side of the affordable housing value chain. It also provides advisory and project management services for large-scale affordable housing projects.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s currently owned by 44 African countries, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa-Re).<\/p>\n
