A member of the Commonwealth Parliamentarians With Disability (CPWD) from Australia, Hon Liesl Tesch has charged the disability community in Ghana to rise up with a strong voice for Political Inclusion in Ghana’s Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to her, the specific needs of Persons with Disability (PwD) are well addressed when they have a voice in Parliament.<\/p>\n

She noted that, though the disability community in Ghana are well organised with a strong voice, the absence of their own representation in Parliament remained a barrier to their unique interest.<\/p>\n

Hon Tesch was speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA<\/strong> after the official opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) conference in Accra, Ghana, on Wednesday,October 4, 2023.<\/p>\n

She said, her presence in Australia Parliament has boosted the well being of persons with cognitive disability in Australia and they now have a say in politics, especially in Parliament.<\/p>\n

“Ghana has a strong disability community but they must do more to have political inclusiveness. I encouraged them to work hard so they can have a voice in Parliament. A strong voice in Parliament will boost their active contribution to national discourse.”<\/p>\n

“I entered Australia Parliament through by-eletion and now I am in my third term. The people believe in me and see me as the voice for all disabled persons and the vulnerable people.”<\/p>\n

“I am the Secretary to the Disability inclusiveness and Family Affairs in Parliament. So I encouraged my friends in Ghana to elect someone of their kind to represent them in Parliament to increase the advocacy in the national discourse,” Hon Tesch said.<\/p>\n
