The Member of Parliament for Chereponi Constituency, Hon Abdul-Razak Tahidu has commended the World Bank for its humanitarian project as the District has benefited from its intervention known as the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion Project (SOCO).<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion Project by the World Bank targeting countries in the sub-region with vulnerability challenges would help to reduce poverty and neglect in the Chereponi District.<\/p>\n

Chereponi is part of eight beneficiary Assemblies in the Northern sector which include, Yendi Municipal, Tamale Metro, Gushegu Municipal, Tatale\/Sanguli District, Saboba District, Kariga District and Sagnarigu District.<\/p>\n

Hon Tahidu made the commendation after he joined the Chereponi District Chief Executive (DCE) Hajia Zuwera to distribute 14 motorbikes to the Zonal areas where the SOCO project is being implemented.<\/p>\n

The MP also commended the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the District Chief Executive Hajia Zuwera\u00a0 for facilitating the program to the benefit of the good people of Chereponi.<\/p>\n

The Motorbikes are going to be used by fieldwork officials to monitor and ensure effective supervision of the project, which focuses on education and market stalls in poverty-endowed rural areas.<\/p>\n

He said the other countries are La Cote D\u2019Ivoire, Benin and Togo and had increased productivity and job creation improved access to basic services and boosted local economic development as its main objectives.<\/p>\n

The MP said, under the project implementation arrangement, District and Community Project-Implementation Committees had been constituted and sensitized together with beneficiary communities with the Facilitator.<\/p>\n

Per the Criteria, the District had been clustered on a Zonal Council basis and each cluster had 12 communities, selected using check list provided by the Ministry and the Chereponi District had \u00a012 zonal for a motorbike each and the two other motors for the main office.<\/p>\n

The SOCO is a US$ 450 million multi-country project being implemented in Benin, Cote D\u2019 Ivoire, Togo, and Ghana with support from the World Bank, and the Government of Ghana\u2019s allocation is a total of US$ 150 million credit facility (Loan).<\/p>\n

The project aims to provide support to the northern parts of the Gulf of Guinea countries that are hardest hit by fragilities due to food insecurity and climate change, conflict, and violence.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to finance investment in sub-projects such as feeder roads, small earth dams, boreholes, and social infrastructure such as markets, schools with a complement of furniture, CHPS Compounds, ICT centres and recreational facilities such as astro turfs and parks.<\/p>\n
