Revenue mobilization among the Metropolitans, Municipals and District Assemblies (MMDAs) is dwelling down the Member of Krowor, Hon\u00a0 Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to her, the situation was a result of bad policies being implemented by the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.<\/p>\n

Hon Naa Momo made these comments when she took her turn on Monday, November 27, to debate on the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government presented to parliament by Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta on November 15, 2023.<\/p>\n

In her argument, the female lawmaker said since 2017 after the Akufo-Addo-led government took over affairs of the state, many of the MMDAs have been recording low revenue as against previous years.<\/p>\n

She said despite the fact that the Constitution of Ghana acknowledges the importance of decentralization and requires that the Government is intentional in providing the necessary resources to local authorities for their management and execution of policies, the current government had invariably denied the MMDAs the needed resources.<\/p>\n

Hon Naa Momo pointed out that, over the years under review, the MMDAs have recorded a negative inflow of revenue, emphasizing that, the constitution specifies that the Central Government must allocate at least five per cent of national revenue into a fund known as the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).<\/p>\n

She further described the 2024 budget presented to Parliament by the government as heavy but lacking substance, contending that the budget failed to give hope and inspire Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
