The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sene East constituency, Hon Dominic Napare has dragged the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Dr Freda Akosua Prempeh to parliament to answer questions on plans to provide Small Town water system (mechanized system) to some communities in the Constituency.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The communities that have been without access to drinking water includes Bodinka, Nyankontre, Nketia Kurom Premuase and Kojokrom.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, provision of three small town\u2019s water system to the communities would help meet their water needs when funds are available.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommunity Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) plans to commence and complete designs for the water system by end of first quarter of 2024in readiness for implementation subject to availability of funds,\u201d the MP stated.<\/p>\n

He also wanted to know plans the Ministry have to provide Solar Electricity system to small town water system, particularly the Kajaji and Basa small town water systems, which will help to reduce operational cost and make it affordable to the beneficiary communities.<\/p>\n

In her response, the Sector Minister explained that, one of the major drivers of the reform is to improve service delivery in the provision of water.<\/p>\n

However, one of the key challenges is the high cost of operation with electric cost.<\/p>\n

She revealed that, consequently, there is a deliberate strategy to explore the use of sustainable and less cost energy options.<\/p>\n

Hon Freda Akosua Freda Prempeh said that, there is also a consistent policy to install hybrid pumps on all new water systems constructed while gradually changing all existing pumps to hybrid to accommodate solar energy.<\/p>\n

She further assured that, even though the initial cost is high but Kajaji and Basa will be considered to enjoy hybrid powered when funds are available.<\/p>\n

But MP expressed dissatisfied and wanted to know measures the ministry is putting in place to upgrade the limited Mechanized water system at the Basa small town water system in view of the increased population with of the Basa senior high which is now Boardinised.<\/p>\n

He said the minister in her response said Basa community has been listed among the priority projects in the the Region and planned implementation is scheduled for 2024 subject to the available funds.<\/p>\n
