The longest serving legislator in Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah has expressed worry over the high attrition rate in Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, the situation is affecting the quality of law making in the country.
\nMr Kyei-Menswh Bonsu who is also the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs made the comments when leadership of the House engaged the media in Parliament on Wednesday, February 7,2024.
\nThe engagement was to brief members of the Parliamentary Press Corps on the issues that the House scheduled to transact during the First meeting of the 4th Session of the 8th Parliament.<\/p>\n

While responding to questions from members of the Parliamentary Press Corps, the Suame MP bemoaned the high attrition rate MPs in Parliament, emphasizing that, “it is ripping off the country of experienced legislators.’<\/p>\n

He attributes the situation to the monetization of both internal parties elections and the nation’s general elections.<\/p>\n

The Majority Leader therefore called for a an alternative approach to the electoral system in use by political parties to ensure that vote buying is curtailed in pursuance of the drive to elect qualified representatives in Parliament.<\/p>\n

Mr Kyei-Menswh Bonsu arguments sterns from the high number of experienced members of Parliament who have either voluntarily bow out or lost in their primaries and the formation of the 9TH Parliament which will relatively have new faces.<\/p>\n

The nature of the work in Parliament is not even one terms job, for a member to understand and discharge their duties as required of them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
