Security officers of the National College of Defence Studies has called on parliament to be more transparent on national issues in order to gain the citizens support.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Officers, issues that come up in parliament for national discourses are often flagged with partisanship thereby denying the citizens, and especially neutral bodies like the security in darkness.<\/p>\n

The officers made the call during an educational forum with officers of parliament on Friday, February 9, 2024, in Accra.<\/p>\n

The officers, who were led by Major General Aryeetey Ayittey, were taken through a series of parliamentary oversight responsibilities on some topical issues in the country.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Dr Emmanuel Marfo, Chairman of Parliament Committee for Environment, briefed the security officers on how parliament allocate resources for environmental projects and it assesses the impact of the allocation on sustainable development and security.<\/p>\n

He identified the menace of illegal mining in farmlands and forest reserves as the major environmental problem facing the country, with parliament having little power to sanction.<\/p>\n

On his part, the First Deputy Minority Whip, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, took the security officers through how parliament support the executive arm of government in promoting stability and development in the country.<\/p>\n

He charged the security officers to work hard to always be professional for national interest in their work, devoid of political control.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, a Deputy Clerk to Parliament, explained the legislature role in promoting policies and activities relating to environmental conservation, economic development and national security.<\/p>\n

Major General Aryeetey, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to parliament and its officers for the engagement and urged that such a forum be held regularly to help the security officers in their operation.<\/p>\n
