The immediate past Board Chairman of Ghana Revenue Authority, Prof Stephen Adei has charged the Grand Coalition of Ghana, amalgamated political parties and independent persons to ensure they secured parliamentary seats to be able to torpedo\u00a0 the duopoly of the National Democratic Congress (NDC0) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)According to him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to him, it would be very difficult for smaller parties and independent presidential candidates to remove the two leading parties at the moment in the country without a representation in parliament.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now, I will urge you to focus on securing at least 10 parliamentary seats. When you have such number, you can decide how the economy should be run, how the direction the nation should go. The current situation of hung parliament has some how save us from the absolute control of parliament of the majoritarian rule, the only independent MP can call a shot and he is being considered in every decision.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cSo getting a sizeable number of MPs on your side in the first place should be your focus, \u201c he advised.<\/p>\n

Prof Adei made these remarks during a media event organized by the Grand Coalition, a political coalition made of some political parties and independent presidential candidates on Monday, April 15, 2024 in Accra.<\/p>\n

The political Group of presidential aspirants, along with their respective political entities, have come together to form a coalition to contest the December 7, 2024 presidential elections.<\/p>\n

While commending the Coalition for the ideas propounded in their objectives which aimed to rescue Ghana and guide it towards a prosperous future, Prof Adei challenged them to mobilize and bring all experts and the youth to support their agenda.<\/p>\n

He said the current state of Ghana\u2019s economic challenges will last beyond 2025 and it would need a sacrificial work by a leader with strong heart and managerial skills to restore the economy.<\/p>\n

In his considered view, the delays in the government’s debt restructuring efforts are just the tip of the iceberg, and it’s crucial for aspiring political leaders to focus on practical strategies to navigate through these tough times.<\/p>\n

He emphasized the need for a three-staged agenda to resolve the crisis, starting with resolving the current economic crisis, laying the preconditions for development, and then envisioning a long-term plan for Ghana’s future.<\/p>\n

As young Ghanaians, it’s essential to understand the gravity of the situation and the impact it will have on our lives. The economic crisis will affect job opportunities, education, and our overall standard of living. However, it’s crucial to stay informed, engaged, and proactive in finding solutions.<\/p>\n

Professor Adei’s call for practical strategies to navigate through these tough times is a reminder that we all have a role to play in shaping Ghana’s future.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson for the Grand Coalition, Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah warned that Ghana\u2019s economy would never improve if it continues to heavily rely on borrowing from financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n

In acknowledging the necessity of borrowing for governmental initiatives and projects, Dr. Worlanyo stressed the need for selecting the appropriate funding sources to mitigate possible adversities.<\/p>\n

His remarks come on the heels of Ghana\u2019s recent acquisition of the third tranche of a $3 billion loan facility from the IMF.<\/p>\n

While expressing his view on the need to shift in strategy, Dr Worlanyo proposed the bolstering of domestic revenue generation through the reinforcement of anti-corruption institutions and agencies.<\/p>\n

He averted that while the IMF provides financial stabilisation tools, relying solely on such external support for economic development can sometimes lead to economic stagnation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIMF is a commercial international commercial bank that gives products to stabilise your economy not to develop your economy and so any government that depends on IMF is likely to fail because our government thought that going for IMF, we will develop the country, but that is a fallacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I believe we need to look at the home-grown policies and programmes that will help us to generate revenue internally. But to govern financial resources for sustainable economic development, what we needed to do is to strengthen the various anti-corruption agencies, like the EOCO, the CHRAJ, the Police CID unit, the Attorney General\u2019s department, especially the Office of the Special Prosecutor.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Grand Coalition<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Coalition has selected Jacob Osei Yeboah known as JOY as its interim leader.<\/p>\n

Some of the Independent presidential aspirants forming the coalition include; Jacob Osei Yeboah, Akwesi Addai Odike, Dr Samuel Worlanyo Mensah, and Apostle Kunmankumah Darkwah-Sarpong.<\/p>\n

The rest are Kofi Koranteng, Tawaih Nkrumah Hemans, Richmond Owusu Frimpong of New Ghana Movement (NGM), Kenneth Kwame Asamoah of Action People\u2019s Party APP, Owuara Ntim Agyarko of People\u2019s Liberation Front (PLF) and Edward Ohene Kye of Begin Ghana Party (BGP)<\/p>\n

The Grand Coalition held a \u2018Convention of Purpose\u2019 with the theme, \u2018Coalition to Save Ghana: Patriotism, National Agenda, and Progress\u2019.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the media, the coalition averred that its formation is in response to the urgent need to safeguard the country for current and future generations.<\/p>\n

It stated that each of the Presidential Aspirants has individually worked diligently to change Ghana\u2019s political landscape, thus committing to a legal democratic revolution to save the country.<\/p>\n
