{"id":15933,"date":"2024-05-23T14:24:57","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T14:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=15933"},"modified":"2024-05-23T14:24:57","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T14:24:57","slug":"you-dont-have-absolute-independence-from-the-citizens-peace-council-warns-jean-mensah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=15933","title":{"rendered":"You Don\u2019t Have Absolute Independence from the Citizens \u2013Peace Council Warns Jean Mensah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah has been warned by the National Peace Council to cease and desist from hiding behind the independence of the Commission and heed sound advice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Member of the Peace Council, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, emphasized that while the Electoral Commission (EC) is an independent body, this autonomy should not serve as justification for disregarding advice and counsel.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the launch of the National Elections Response Group, Maulvi noted that the EC\u2019s success or failure can make or unmake Ghana in the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cIndependent they are, yes, but that doesn\u2019t stop them from listening to Ghanaians, listening to the wisdom of our elders, and so on and so forth\u201d, he said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThey should not, under any circumstances, hide behind the independence to refuse to consult and listen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they put their act together and do it well, they can put Ghana together and they can place Ghana on a pedestal of peace and progress\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if they don\u2019t act well, they can also break Ghana, and posterity will not forgive them if it so happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15934\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15934\" style=\"width: 423px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15934 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Maulvi-Mohammed-Bin-Salih.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"330\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15934\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah has been warned by the National Peace Council to cease and desist from hiding behind the independence of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":10473,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[82],"tags":[3718],"class_list":["post-15933","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-general-news","tag-no-independence-of-ec"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
