Hon Isaac Adjei Mensah, the Ranking Member of the Committee of Roads and Transport of Parliament, has accused President Akufo-Addo’s administration of handling the Kasoa-Winneba road project contract with undue secrecy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He claims that stakeholders are not properly engaged in the construction process and its associated issues.<\/p>\n

In an interview with EXPRESSNEWSGHANA,<\/strong><\/em> following a visit to the project site with the Minority caucus members on the Roads committee, Mr. Adjei Mensah questioned the lack of transparency surrounding the project.<\/p>\n

He noted that the contract had not been presented to Parliament for scrutiny and had not properly undergone the procurement process. Traditional leaders, artisans, and transport users appear unaware of the project’s details.<\/p>\n

Mr. Adjei Mensah highlighted concerns about the project’s budget and the lack of compensation for those affected by the construction.<\/p>\n

He stated, “It is curious that the terms of such an important project continue to be shrouded in secrecy. Worse still, it is expected to lead to job losses, demolition of properties, lack of consultation with chiefs, and inadequate diversion signs for drivers, thereby congesting traffic on the road.”<\/p>\n

During a courtesy call on the Awutu and Budumburam Traditional Councils, the chiefs expressed disappointment over the lack of consultation and compensation for residents whose structures were demolished to facilitate the dualization of the road project.<\/p>\n

The 30km road project, divided into two lots for separate contractors, was initiated by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to address heavy vehicular traffic and frequent accidents on the stretch by expanding it into a dual carriageway.<\/p>\n

While visiting the site, Mr. Adjei Mensah indicated that the contractors refused to brief them on the project’s scope, timeline, and budget. He also noted the lack of traffic safety measures and road signs.<\/p>\n

He called on the government to expedite the project to decongest traffic and ease transportation on the Kasoa-Winneba stretch.<\/p>\n
