The Upper East Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the alleged unlawful arrest and brutalization of two young men from Binduri by personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The arrests, reportedly carried out under the guise of “orders from above,” have sparked outrage within the community and the NDC, who accuse the government of using state security to stifle political dissent.<\/p>\n

According to a statement signed by Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, Samson Samari, the incident occurred on August 12, 2024, when two armored military vehicles stormed the homes of the victims in Binduri.<\/p>\n

He said the soldiers allegedly assaulted the young men before transporting them to a military base in Bawku. One of the individuals reportedly sustained severe injuries and had to be rushed to the Van Yard Hospital for urgent medical attention before being airlifted to an undisclosed location in Accra.<\/p>\n

The NDC youth leader claimed the arrests are part of a coordinated effort led by the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Abdulai Abanga, who they describe as a “failed Member of Parliament” seeking to intimidate his political opponents ahead of the December 7th, 2024, general elections.<\/p>\n

The party believes that the youth of Binduri are being targeted for their vocal demands for new political leadership in the area, and expressed outrage over what they describe as the \u201cmisuse of state security\u201d forces to settle political scores.<\/p>\n

They emphasized that the Ghana Armed Forces, whose primary duty is to protect the citizenry, should not be used as a tool for political victimization.<\/p>\n

“We demand the immediate release of these two innocent young men by the military and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). Failure to comply will result in stronger actions from our side. We will not waver in our pursuit of justice for our comrades,” the statement read.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They vowed to pursue all available avenues to ensure the release of the detained individuals and hold those responsible for the incident accountable. They further called on civil society organizations, human rights groups, and the international community to take note of what they describe as increasing acts of intimidation and abuse of power in the lead-up to the elections.<\/p>\n

As tension builds in the region, there are growing concerns about potential escalations if the demands of the NDC Youth Wing are not addressed. The Ghana Armed Forces and government officials are yet to respond to the allegations.<\/p>\n

Upper East Regional Youth Wing of the NDC Condemns Unlawful Arrest of Binduri Youth<\/p>\n

August 15th, 2024<\/p>\n

The Upper East Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongly condemns the unlawful arrest of some youth from Binduri by elements of the Ghana Armed Forces, allegedly operating on orders from above. We believe this action aims to intimidate the youth from demanding a change in Binduri’s political leadership.<\/p>\n

We suspect that the failed Member of Parliament and incompetent Deputy Minister for Local Government, Abdulai Abanga, orchestrated this move to punish the youth before his expected defeat on December 7th, 2024.<\/p>\n

On August 12th, 2024, two armored vehicles of the Ghana Armed Forces invaded the homes of two individuals, brutalized them, and took them to the armed forces base in Bawku. One victim suffered serious wounds and was rushed to the van yard hospital for treatment. They were later airlifted to an unknown location in Accra.<\/p>\n
