The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has outlined conditions that must be met before the party considers signing the Peace Pact proposed by the National Peace Council ahead of the December 7 elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Nketia expressed doubt about the effectiveness of previous Peace Pacts, pointing out that they had failed to achieve their objectives.<\/p>\n

He specifically referred to the 2020 elections, during which eight NDC members were allegedly killed by national security operatives, with no accountability.<\/p>\n

At an August 20 meeting with the National Peace Council held at the NDC headquarters, Mr. Nketia presented the party\u2019s demands for participating in the Peace Pact.<\/p>\n

The NDC insists on full implementation of the recommendations from the investigation into the violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.<\/p>\n

Additionally, they demand the prosecution of those responsible for election-related violence in the last election, emphasizing the need for justice and future prevention.<\/p>\n

The NDC also calls for accountability regarding irregularities in the printing of ballot papers and demands visible measures to prevent similar issues from occurring.<\/p>\n

The party further requests a thorough investigation into the missing IT equipment from the Electoral Commission\u2019s (EC) warehouse, expressing concerns about the integrity of the EC\u2019s systems and potential staff bias.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the NDC urges the President to publicly commit to respecting the 2024 election results. Finally, the party insists that the Peace Pact be signed by key figures, including the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, and the National Security Coordinator, before they will consider signing it themselves.<\/p>\n
