The Regional Commander for the Greater Accra Region of the Fire Service, ACFO1 Roberta Aggrey-Ghanson, has confirmed that the fire incident at Parliament on Tuesday, August 27, is under control.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Corps, ACFO1 Aggrey-Ghanson stated that the fire service received a distress call at 9:45 am and responded promptly.<\/p>\n

“Our appliance was on the scene within less than five minutes, and we have been able to confine the fire to one room, which appears to be a storeroom.”<\/p>\n

She assured that the situation is calm and under control, with no flames visible.<\/p>\n

However, the area is still smoky, making it difficult to assess the situation fully.<\/p>\n

ACFO1 Aggrey-Ghanson confirmed that three tenders have been deployed, and the fire service is relying on Parliament’s water source to refill their appliances.<\/p>\n

Reinforcements have also been deployed due to the initial intensity of the smoke.<\/p>\n

When asked about the safety of the building for staff to work, ACFO1 Aggrey-Ghanson stated that it is not safe yet, as the fire needs to be fully extinguished before the area can be declared safe.<\/p>\n

A post-incident briefing is expected to take place once the situation is fully under control.<\/p>\n
