The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency has levelled serious accusations against the Electoral Commission (EC), claiming it has conspired with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to artificially inflate the voters\u2019 register in the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During a press conference held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in Ajumako, the NDC\u2019s Communications Officer, Galahad Alex Andoh, alleged that over 3,000 names have been illegally added to the voters’ register. He demanded an explanation from the EC regarding how these names were included in the register.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat particular register given to us by our party and that given to us by the EC has some anomalies. When we collated it, we noticed the difference. The register has been bloated by an excess of over, 3017 that were unlawfully transferred onto our register.”<\/p>\n

He further noted that the party will resist any attempts by the EC to manipulate the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

The NDC also expressed concerns about discrepancies between the voters’ register given to their leadership in Accra and the one used in the voter exhibition exercise. Mr Andoh suggested that these discrepancies are part of a broader effort by the EC to rig the elections in favour of the NPP.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need an explanation at the Electoral Commission as to why the voter’s register presented to the NDC leadership in Accra is different from what they use in the voter exhibition exercise. We can see clearly that the Electoral Commission is bent on rigging the election for the New Patriotic Party and we will do everything to ensure that the will of the people is accounted for. If our demands are not met, we will besiege the EC office with a lawful demonstration.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his part, Professor Jonathan Annan, the constituency chairman of the NDC in Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, reiterated the party\u2019s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the voters\u2019 register. He urged all NDC parliamentary candidates and executives across the region to thoroughly scrutinize their respective registers, and added that the current EC could not be trusted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will ensure that the register is not bloated. We are using this medium to caution all NDC PCs and executives to carefully scrutinise their respective registers because it is clear this current EC cannot be trusted,\u201d Professor Annan said.<\/p>\n
