Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has publicly renounced his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on his humanitarian efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer expressed regret over aligning with a political party, acknowledging that his involvement hasn’t been fair to the youth of the country.<\/p>\n

He announced his decision to step back from politics and dedicate his efforts to empowering Ghanaian youth through the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.<\/p>\n

This comes after Gyan was appointed as chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia\u2019s campaign earlier in 2024.<\/p>\n

He was seen participating in campaign events with the NPP\u2019s presidential candidate, including a recent campaign walk in Akropong in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

However, the 38-year-old now plans to distance himself from political affiliations and focus solely on his independent humanitarian work.<\/p>\n

In his post, Gyan wrote: “I haven\u2019t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on December 7. God bless our homeland Ghana.”<\/p>\n

The football icon concluded by wishing all parties a peaceful election, emphasizing his commitment to non-partisan social contributions moving forward.<\/p>\n
