A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdul-Sheriff Nasiru, has raised concerns about Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), and her refusal to subject the Voter Register to forensic auditing. <\/strong><\/p>\n

He questioned the EC Chair’s commitment to transparency, asserting that if the register is truly credible, there should be no hesitation in conducting the audit.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Sheriff made these comments following the NDC\u2019s \u201cEnough is Enough\u201d demonstration against the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the NDC and other political parties are calling for an independent audit of the electoral register and the EC\u2019s IT system, describing this move as a highly democratic action that should be supported by any peace-loving Ghanaian.<\/p>\n

When asked why a forensic audit is necessary, Alhaji Sheriff explained that the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission is the first in history to transfer over 15,000 eligible voters without their consent, which he claims is a violation of electoral laws.<\/p>\n

He suggested that many perceive the current EC as closely aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), raising concerns about its impartiality.<\/p>\n

He highlighted Ghana\u2019s progress as a democratic nation and stressed that the NDC and other concerned Ghanaians will not allow the EC to undermine the democratic process by compiling a flawed electoral register ahead of the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n

Alhaji Sheriff reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to protecting the country’s hard-won democracy, originally championed by the party’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings.<\/p>\n

The former National Executive member of the NDC issued a strong warning to the EC to heed calls for a forensic audit to address irregularities and discrepancies in both the voter register and the EC\u2019s IT system.<\/p>\n

He added that the NDC would not tolerate a rigged election in favour of any candidate.<\/p>\n

He further called on civil society organizations, religious leaders, and other well-meaning Ghanaians to advocate for a credible voter register and described anyone opposing the forensic audit as a greater threat to democracy than a coup plotter.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he urged Ghanaians to remain resolute, support the NDC, and ensure that the electoral process is transparent, as the nation moves toward the December 7 elections.<\/p>\n

He called for collective action to restore the country\u2019s democracy and “send the elephant (NPP) back to the bush.”<\/p>\n
