{"id":17934,"date":"2024-10-07T14:49:15","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T14:49:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=17934"},"modified":"2024-10-07T14:49:15","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T14:49:15","slug":"mahama-promises-lower-cost-of-living-and-additional-holiday-for-muslims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=17934","title":{"rendered":"Mahama promises lower cost of living and additional holiday for Muslims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, has pledged a lower cost of living in Ghana and to create an extra public holiday after Eid-Ul-Fitr for Muslims if the party returns to power.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to a gathering in Nalerigu\/Gambaga, Mahama highlighted the significant increases in the cost of goods under the current administration and vowed to ease the burden on Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we were in power, a bag of cement was GH\u00a225.00, but today it\u2019s GH\u00a2110.00. Fuel was GH\u00a214.00 for a gallon, but today it\u2019s over GH\u00a270.00. We will work to make life more affordable for Ghanaians,\u201d he pledged.<\/p>\n<p>Mahama also announced plans to add an extra public holiday following Eid-Ul-Fitr, explaining that it would give Muslims a chance to rest and celebrate after the Ramadan fast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will add one more day after Eid-Ul-Fitr to allow Muslims to rest and celebrate after fasting,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The former president also noted the NDC\u2019s past achievements, including the completion of the first phase of Tamale Airport, which enabled Muslims to travel directly to Saudi Arabia for Hajj.<\/p>\n<p>He vowed to reduce the current Hajj fare, which has risen significantly since he left office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore I left office, the cost of Hajj was GH\u00a211,900.00, but today it\u2019s over GH\u00a275,000.00.
