The National Service Scheme (NSS) has officially launched into the National Service Authority following the passage of the National Service Authority Act (Act 1119) by Parliament. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The formal launch of the Act was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday, October 18, 2024 in Accra<\/p>\n

In his keynote address, President Akufo-Addo lauded the critical role of the NSS in national development, noting that the scheme saves Ghana over 3 billion cedis annually.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the new National Service Authority would continue to play a pivotal role in preparing the youth for nation-building, and expressed optimism that it would be even more influential under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the next administration.<\/p>\n

Mr. Daniel Macholy, who chaired the occasion, advocated for mandatory national service, stressing its importance in fostering discipline and patriotism among the youth.<\/p>\n

He further proposed a partnership between the National Service Authority, his foundation, and his salt industry to support the authority’s activities.<\/p>\n

Osei Assibey Antwi, the first Director-General of the National Service Authority, welcomed attendees and praised President Akufo-Addo\u2019s commitment to youth development. He highlighted the transformation of the NSS into an authority as a testament to the government\u2019s dedication to strengthening institutions.<\/p>\n

Mr. Assibey Antwi also called for additional government support, particularly in securing equipment and farmland for agricultural initiatives aimed at bolstering the Free Senior High School (FSHS) program.<\/p>\n

He appealed to the Finance Minister for financial backing to expand the authority\u2019s accounting aid and its collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC).<\/p>\n

NSS Board Chairman, Nee Odoi Tetteyfio, underscored the significance of the transition, which he said would expand the authority’s capacity and jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

He revealed that plans are underway to improve the remuneration of NSS staff, aligning with the authority\u2019s new status and providing further growth and sustainability opportunities.<\/p>\n

The Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, also spoke at the event, recounting the significant progress made in the education sector under President Akufo-Addo\u2019s administration, attributing part of this success to the NSS\u2019s contributions to national development.<\/p>\n

The launch of the National Service Authority marks a new chapter in its history, as it continues to support youth development and contribute to the country’s growth.<\/p>\n
