The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Aseidu, has criticized the Minority for their recent attack on the Clerk to the Appointment Committee of Parliament, accusing her of unprofessional conduct.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He described the Minority\u2019s claims as “baseless and unmeritorious.”<\/p>\n

The Minority at a press conference on Saturday, February 1, accused the Appointments Committee of Parliament Mrs. Gifty Jiage, of bias and politically connected to the Majority side, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n

The ranking member, Hon. Afenyo Markin\u00a0 called her a \u201cPartisan Clerk\u2026You this woman, shame on you! Shame on you!\u201d<\/p>\n

But speaking to EXPRESSNEWSGHANA<\/strong><\/em> in parliament on the issue, Hon. Aseidu emphasized that the events in question were witnessed by all members, and while they were regrettable, he suggested that the situation could have been resolved more amicably.<\/p>\n

He remarked, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t really nice, but there are people who don\u2019t have the nation at heart. This was a simple issue that we could have resolved. If you are tired, leave the committee and let others who are willing to work continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

He further questioned the actions of the Minority, stating that if the committee’s previous meetings or arrangements were uncomfortable, they should have raised their concerns earlier.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they had communicated their issues, we could have all understood,\u201d he said. “Instead, they chose to stay, causing disruptions, breaking microphones and tables, and preventing the vetting from proceeding. This has incurred unnecessary costs to the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

HON CHARLES ASEIDU<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hon. Aseidu stressed that the primary focus of Parliament is to work towards the development of the country and improve the living standards of its citizens.<\/p>\n

He noted, “We are here to work for the people, and what happened was unfortunate. We can only apologize, but we are honest about our intentions. Ghanaians are listening, and we are committed to moving forward.”<\/p>\n

He reiterated that the government remains focused on its objectives, stating that despite the disruptions, government business must continue. “We are not here to fight; we are here to ensure that government operations move forward in a positive direction,” he affirmed.<\/p>\n

When asked about the majority member\u2019s absence in parliamentary sessions in the chamber, Hon. Aseidu clarified that the scheduling of committee meetings and parliamentary proceedings can sometimes overlap.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor instance, my regional minister will be on the committee today, so I may need to step out briefly to join her,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m absent; we all do our part to ensure government business runs smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stated that despite the challenges, they remain committed to prosecuting government business effectively, nothing that, \u201cThe Minority has nothing to lose in this situation,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we will continue to push forward for the success of government operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hon. Aseidu\u2019s reiterated his determination to move beyond the disruptions and focus on the important work at hand for the benefit of the nation.<\/p>\n
