In a bold move to align Ghana’s power sector with the ambitious goals of the NDC’s Reset Agenda, the President of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), Abednego Orstin Rawlings, has called on President John Mahama to appoint a transformational leader from within the ranks of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to helm the critical state-owned enterprise.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rawlings, a seasoned military strategist with deep ties to the NDC, has conveyed the staff’s resounding desire for a visionary “Comrade” who can steer GRIDCo towards greater efficiency, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the party’s vision for economic and social transformation.<\/p>\n

“The national grid is the backbone of our power sector, and its proper management is crucial for the success of the NDC’s Reset Agenda,” Rawlings emphasized during an exclusive interview. “President Mahama must heed the call of the GRIDCo staff and appoint a transformative leader from within the company who can deliver on the party’s promise of reliable, affordable electricity for all Ghanaians.”<\/p>\n

A Mandate for Internal Renewal<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Rawlings, the GRIDCo staff have made it clear that the company is in dire need of a leader who not only understands the technicalities of the power grid but also embodies the core values and aspirations of the NDC.<\/p>\n

“The staff have voiced their frustration with the sidelining of perceived NDC Comrades and the promotion of NPP sympathizers to key positions within the company. They believe that only a true Comrade, with a proven track record and the trust of the workforce, can steer GRIDCo towards excellence and ensure the success of the Reset Agenda,” Rawlings explained.<\/p>\n

Rawlings stressed that the new leader must be capable of addressing the range of operational and morale-related challenges that have plagued the company in recent years, including a lack of transparency in promotions, the exclusion of NDC members from management, and the denial of training opportunities for staff.<\/p>\n

“It’s unacceptable that our Comrades have been marginalized and denied the chance to grow and develop their skills. The new leader must restore meritocracy, empower the workforce, and foster a sense of ownership and pride in GRIDCo’s success,” The AFRICOM Boss said.<\/p>\n

Aligning with the Reset Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the heart of Rawlings’ recommendation is the imperative to ensure that GRIDCo’s operations are fully aligned with the NDC’s Reset Agenda, which outlines a comprehensive plan for economic revitalization, social development, and infrastructure modernization.<\/p>\n

Rawlings emphasized, “The national grid is the backbone of our power sector, and its proper management is crucial for the success of the Reset Agenda. Rawlings acknowledges that the appointment of a transformative leader from within GRIDCo’s ranks may face significant political pushback, particularly from the opposition NPP.<\/p>\n

“We are under no illusions that this move will be welcomed by all,” Rawlings said. “The NPP will likely cry foul and accuse the NDC of consolidating power and marginalizing those who don’t share their political leanings.”<\/p>\n

However, Rawlings argues that the NDC’s responsibility to the Ghanaian people transcends partisan politics and requires the alignment of key state-owned enterprises with the party’s vision for the country.<\/p>\n

“The people have entrusted us with the responsibility of governing, and that includes ensuring that our critical institutions are led by individuals who share our commitment to national development,” Rawlings asserted. “We are confident that the appointment of a transformative GRIDCo leader from within the company’s ranks will strengthen the institution’s operational capacity and contribute to the success of the Reset Agenda.”<\/p>\n
