The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has assured Parliament that the government will re-table the University of Local Governance and Development (ULGD) Bill.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This move aims to facilitate the establishment of a university in Akomadan, Offinso North Constituency \u00b9.<\/p>\n

The Bill, initially submitted to Parliament last year, was not approved by the 8th Parliament.<\/p>\n

However, the new government has prioritized its re-submission. Ibrahim explained that the Ministry will take steps to resubmit the Joint Request for Executive Approval by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and subsequently re-lay the Bill for Parliamentary Approval as soon as practicable.<\/p>\n

The proposed university is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing academic and professional excellence in local governance and development. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to transform the region.<\/p>\n

In a related development, Ibrahim addressed concerns about the stalled construction of the Mamponteng market in the Kwabre East Constituency.<\/p>\n

He assured that the Ministry will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to explore available funding options and ensure the project’s completion.<\/p>\n

The project, which commenced in 2012, has been abandoned for over 13 years, with a current completion rate of 55%.<\/p>\n

This was in response to a question posed by MP for Kwabre East, Akwasi Acheampong Oyina.oy<\/p>\n

The University of Local Governance and Development Bill is part of the government’s efforts to promote local governance and development.<\/p>\n
