The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bunkrurugu, Hon. Dr. Abed-Nego Azumah Bandim, has emphasized the need for effective collaboration and cordial working relationships between Members of Parliament (MPs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to accelerate development at the local level.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking to ExpressNewsGhana<\/strong><\/em> on the sidelines of a sitting of Parliament\u2019s Select Committee on Local Government on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Dr. Bandim commended the committee for its efforts to strengthen cooperation between MPs and MMDCEs, describing such partnerships as essential for efficient governance and development delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe committee is very interested in ensuring cooperation between MPs and MMDCEs because, even when the necessary resources are available, development suffers if the two key actors fail to work together,\u201d Dr. Bandim said.<\/p>\n

Drawing from his personal experience, the Bunkrurugu MP noted that collaboration between legislators and local executives is possible regardless of political differences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was an opposition MP, but I had a good working relationship with the then DCE. He consulted me on every major project in the district and sought my input. When MPs and DCEs work together, the people benefit. But when they don\u2019t, development stalls,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Dr. Bandim also cited a recent case in the Eastern Region where tensions between an MP and a DCE hindered progress.<\/p>\n

He lauded the committee\u2019s intervention to bring the two together for dialogue aimed at restoring collaboration for the benefit of their constituents.<\/p>\n

He further stressed the importance of the committee\u2019s monitoring exercise, noting that it provides a vital assessment mechanism to track the implementation of development projects across districts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis exercise is very important. It helps the committee assess what is happening on the ground, monitor ongoing projects, and ensure that development targets are being met. It serves as both a benchmarking and assessment tool for future planning,\u201d Dr. Bandim explained.<\/p>\n

The MP reiterated that fostering unity and teamwork among all stakeholders in local governance is key to achieving sustainable development and improving the lives of citizens.<\/p>\n
