{"id":22614,"date":"2025-10-27T22:31:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=22614"},"modified":"2025-10-27T22:31:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:31:36","slug":"mahama-launches-30-year-infrastructure-plan-inspired-by-nkrumahs-vision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=22614","title":{"rendered":"Mahama Launches 30-Year Infrastructure Plan Inspired by Nkrumah\u2019s Vision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"80\" data-end=\"302\"><strong>President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP)<\/strong> a 30-<strong>year development framework designed to transform the country\u2019s infrastructure landscape and guide national growth through to 2057.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"304\" data-end=\"528\">The plan, developed by the <strong data-start=\"331\" data-end=\"382\">National Development Planning Commission (NDPC)<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> outlines Ghana\u2019s long-term vision for infrastructure development, serving as the foundation for the country\u2019s social and economic transformation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"530\" data-end=\"713\">Speaking at the launch, President Mahama said the event marked more than just the unveiling of a document, describing it as a continuation of Ghana\u2019s historical pursuit of progress.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"717\" data-end=\"969\">\u201cToday, we gather not just for a launch, but to rekindle a vision,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a journey that began over a decade ago when I had the honour, as President, to initiate the development of a long-term infrastructure plan for our beloved country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1184\">He described the GIP as a <strong data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1032\">bold, forward-looking blueprint<\/strong> that outlines how Ghana will design, finance, and implement infrastructure projects to enhance the quality of life and drive sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1423\">President Mahama anchored the plan in the legacy of <strong data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1267\">Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah<\/strong>, recalling the visionary leader\u2019s <strong data-start=\"1302\" data-end=\"1341\">Seven-Year Development Plan of 1963<\/strong>, which sought to industrialise Ghana and lay the foundations for self-reliance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"1645\">\u201cDr Nkrumah recognised that infrastructure was the foundation of a modern, industrialised, and self-reliant nation. His vision was bold, patriotic, and transformative \u2014 and it remains timeless even today,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"2006\">However, Mahama acknowledged that Ghana\u2019s infrastructure development has often been undermined by inefficiency and fragmentation. Citing the <strong data-start=\"1788\" data-end=\"1828\">2024 National Annual Progress <\/strong><strong>Report<\/strong> by the NDPC, he revealed that the country has incurred <strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1921\">over $<\/strong><strong>70 billion in cost <\/strong><strong>overruns<\/strong> across 18,000 capital projects, many of which have suffered delays or abandonment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2241\">\u201cWe must reflect on the painful truth that, despite our ambition, infrastructure delivery has often been fragmented, politicized, and inefficient. We inherited Nkrumah\u2019s dream, but we have yet to fulfil its promise,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2468\">The President said the GIP marks a <strong data-start=\"2278\" data-end=\"2297\">strategic reset<\/strong>, aligning Ghana\u2019s development agenda with the <strong data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2363\">Big Push Agenda<\/strong><strong>, the <\/strong><strong data-start=\"2369\" data-end=\"2400\">African Union\u2019s Agenda 2063<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"2410\" data-end=\"2465\">United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2470\" data-end=\"2659\">He explained that the plan introduces a <strong data-start=\"2510\" data-end=\"2543\">new <\/strong><strong>integrated planning model<\/strong> designed to promote balanced regional development and ensure equitable access to opportunities for all citizens.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2661\" data-end=\"2909\">President Mahama also noted that the GIP was originally completed in 2016 and revised in 2019 but was shelved for several years. Its relaunch, he said, reaffirms his administration\u2019s commitment to continuity and long-term national transformation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2913\" data-end=\"3124\" data-is-last-node=\"\">\u201cLet us not just build roads and bridges,\u201d he urged, \u201cbut a Ghana that works for everyone \u2014 where vision meets discipline, and where continuity,
