Parliament, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, commiserated with the Rawlings family following the passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Speaker, accompanied by members of the Parliamentary leadership and staff, visited the residence of the late former First Lady to express condolences and offer words of comfort to the bereaved family.<\/p>\n

In his tribute, Speaker Bagbin described the late Nana Konadu as a woman of exceptional dignity, courage, and influence whose impact extended far beyond Ghana\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n

\u201cNana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was more than a mother. She was a woman of great dignity who impacted not just Ghana but the entire world. That is what happens to great people\u2014they leave us in awe and wonder,\u201d the Speaker said.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He added that Parliament would, at the appropriate time, pay a formal tribute to celebrate her contributions to national development and women\u2019s empowerment.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people did not fully understand her. But as we share our experiences and memories, I believe the nation will come to appreciate and love her even more,\u201d Speaker Bagbin remarked.<\/p>\n

Expressing deep sympathy to the Rawlings family, the Speaker acknowledged the pain of losing both former President Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu within a few years, describing it as a difficult experience for any family to endure.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not easy to lose both parents within such a short time. But we trust that the Almighty God will strengthen and comfort you. This is the time to uphold her legacy and honour her memory with dignity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaker Bagbin urged Ghanaians to celebrate the remarkable life and contributions of the late former First Lady, noting that her legacy as a trailblazer and advocate for women\u2019s rights would continue to inspire generations.<\/p>\n
