The Member of Parliament for Kintampo South, Hon. Felicia Adjei, has urged the Government of Ghana to immortalize the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, by naming a national monument in her honour.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the MP, Ghana has lost a remarkable woman whose life\u2019s work was dedicated to empowering women and improving the lives of many across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cGhana has lost a great woman, and I believe the government will give her a befitting burial. Beyond that, I hope a national monument can be established in her honor. She opened doors for many women and was never afraid to challenge the status quo,\u201d Hon. Adjei said.<\/p>\n

The legislator also shared a personal reflection, recounting how the late First Lady offered her emotional support during difficult moments in her life.<\/p>\n

Highlighting Nana Konadu\u2019s immense contributions to national development, Hon. Adjei praised her for championing the PNDC Law 111 (Interstate Succession Law), which protects the inheritance rights of widows and children when a man dies without a will.<\/p>\n

She further lauded Konadu\u2019s 31st December Women\u2019s Movement, which established daycare centers and supported numerous women through income-generating ventures, such as gari factories and palm oil processing mills.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer activism paved the way for many of us. I remember her for the Affirmative Action Bill, the Beijing Conference, and her tireless advocacy for women\u2019s inclusion and empowerment,\u201d the MP noted.<\/p>\n

Although Nana Konadu later founded her own political party, Hon. Adjei emphasized that she remained a committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at heart.<\/p>\n

Born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast in the Central Region, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings\u2014wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings\u2014passed away in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.<\/p>\n

Hon. Felicia Adjei made the remarks in Parliament after contributing to a statement by the MP for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Ibrahimah, in memory of the late former First Lady. She reiterated her call for a state burial and for the naming of a national monument in recognition of Nana Konadu\u2019s enduring legacy in advancing women\u2019s rights and social development in Ghana.<\/p>\n
