The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Hon Ewurabena Aubynn, has raised a red flag over the growing prevalence of cancer in Ghana, particularly in rural communities, as the world observes International Cancer Day 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a statement on the floor of Parliament, Aubynn highlighted that Ghana records over 24,000 new cancer cases annually, with breast, cervical, prostate, liver, and colorectal cancers being the most prevalent.<\/p>\n

Many cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, making treatment options limited and costly.
\nAubynn commended the government’s establishment of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) to support cancer patients, but emphasized the need for more investment in prevention, early detection, and decentralization of cancer services.<\/p>\n

The MP commended government for the effort, especially on the health development fund known as Mahama Care which will help reduce the cost of cancer treatment.<\/p>\n

She however called for a national commitment to make cancer care accessible and affordable, urging unity among government, Parliament, and citizens to tackle the disease.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
