The Member of Parliament for the Guan Constituency, Hon. Fred Agbenyo, has offered high praise for President John Mahama following the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA). Speaking to journalists on Friday, February 27, the lawmaker highlighted several transformative projects earmarked for the Oti Region, describing the President\u2019s vision as a catalyst for economic independence and regional growth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u200bA central theme of the MP\u2019s commendation was the formal announcement regarding the construction of a bridge over the River Oti.<\/p>\n

Hon. Agbenyo noted that this is no longer a mere campaign promise, as contractors have already mobilized to the site.<\/p>\n

Feasibility studies are currently underway, with the landmark infrastructure project expected to reach completion by 2028.<\/p>\n

According to the MP, the bridge will eliminate the current reliance on ferry schedules, ensuring 24-hour access for travelers and traders moving toward the northern parts of Ghana and neighboring Sahelian countries.<\/p>\n

\u200bBeyond the bridge, Hon. Agbenyo emphasized the significance of the President\u2019s commitment to establishing a public university in the region, specifically sited in Jasikan.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the Oti Region has long lacked a tertiary institution of this caliber.<\/p>\n

The move aligns with the government\u2019s broader policy to ensure every region in Ghana hosts a public university, a development the MP believes will provide unprecedented educational opportunities for the youth in his constituency and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u200bAddressing concerns regarding the economy and security, the MP lauded the stability Ghana enjoys despite regional volatility.<\/p>\n

He cited recent swift interventions by the Ghana Armed Forces against maritime threats as evidence of a robust security apparatus.<\/p>\n

Hon. Agbenyo also defended the government’s pace regarding accountability and anti-corruption efforts, explaining that in a democracy governed by the rule of law, due process must be followed.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the Attorney General is working to build solid dockets to ensure justice is served through the court system rather than through arbitrary actions.<\/p>\n

\u200bThe MP further expressed optimism about the “24-Hour Economy” initiative, noting that the recent passage of the Authority Bill paves the way for a significant shift in national productivity.<\/p>\n

He predicted that the program would be a major driver for job creation, particularly within the agricultural sector, and urged all Ghanaians to embrace the policy as it begins to take off.<\/p>\n

With the continuation of the Eastern Corridor Road and the integration of the Oti Region into the national development grid, Hon. Agbenyo concluded that the President’s agenda represents a new era of prosperity.<\/p>\n

He maintained that the combination of improved road networks, educational infrastructure, and the strategic Oti bridge will effectively open up the enclave for sustainable economic transformation.<\/p>\n
