The Member of Parliament for the Weija-Gbawe constituency and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has officially cut sod for the construction of a dedicated Emergency Block at the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital, widely known as Akawe Hospital.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This strategic intervention is aimed at addressing the severe infrastructural deficit that has long hampered the delivery of critical care in the municipality and its surrounding enclaves.<\/p>\n

The new facility is designed to function as a comprehensive hub for emergency medicine, featuring a 25-bed male ward and a 25-bed female ward, both equipped with modern washroom facilities.<\/p>\n

The architectural plans also include a specialized recovery ward, consulting rooms, a pharmacy, a fully equipped laboratory, and a dedicated ambulance bay to streamline the reception of trauma and emergency cases.<\/p>\n

\u200bAddressing a gathering of traditional leaders, healthcare professionals, and constituents, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib emphasized that the project was born out of a moral necessity to protect the lives of residents.<\/p>\n

He noted that for too long, the hospital\u2019s limited resources forced emergency cases to compete with general admissions, a situation he described as “clinically untenable and morally unacceptable.”<\/p>\n

\u200b”Today represents a deliberate decision to respond to a real and long-standing need in this municipality,” the MP stated during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

“Day and night, families carry their loved ones to Akawe Hospital trusting that help will be available. It is a trust that this facility, despite its challenges, has endeavoured to honour.<\/p>\n

But we must be honest: the current infrastructure has long been overwhelmed by the burden of demand.”<\/p>\n

\u200bThe MP underscored that the Emergency Block would fundamentally transform the hospital\u2019s operations by enabling efficient triage and stabilization in a dignified environment.<\/p>\n

He remarked that the facility serves a vast catchment area, including Tetegu, Oblogo, and Kasoa, asserting that health investments must transcend constituency boundaries.<\/p>\n

“They do not ask which constituency they belong to when they are in pain, and we must not ask that question when we build,” he added.<\/p>\n

\u200bHighlighting his broader commitment to the sector, Hon. Shaib referenced his “Health Train” initiative, which has provided screenings, surgeries, and NHIS registrations across all 16 electoral areas of the constituency.<\/p>\n

He also used the platform to call for the immediate commissioning of the recently completed Weija-Gbawe Children\u2019s Hospital, a project initiated in 2024, to ensure that its world-class facilities begin serving the Ghanaian public.<\/p>\n

In his closing remarks, the lawmaker expressed his gratitude to the healthcare workers at Akawe Hospital, noting that the new block is a testament to the fact that their working conditions are worth investing in.<\/p>\n

He concluded by affirming that the project marks the beginning of a new chapter in the constituency\u2019s healthcare story, rooted in the “sanctity of life” and the right to quality care in moments of greatest need.<\/p>\n
