The District Chief Executive for the Kassena Nankana West District, Stephen Aeke Akurungo, has commissioned a new animal market in Paga, describing the initiative as a major step toward strengthening local commerce and expanding international trade opportunities within the district.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The colourful ceremony, held in the heart of Paga, attracted chiefs, opinion leaders, assembly members, livestock traders, and residents from surrounding communities who gathered to witness the opening of the facility.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Mr. Akurungo disclosed that the construction of the market followed repeated appeals from residents and livestock dealers who had long desired a dedicated trading center for animals in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of the concerned indigents in Paga came to my office to appeal for an animal market to be constructed in the heart of the town to serve both the locals and the international community. Upon listening to them, I quickly gave it a thought, and today we are here to commission it for the district,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

According to the DCE, the market is expected to stimulate economic activities in the district by creating employment opportunities, improving livestock trading, and strengthening commercial ties with neighboring communities and international traders.<\/p>\n

He noted that the strategic location of Paga, which serves as a gateway between Ghana and Burkina Faso, makes the market a potentially important commercial hub capable of attracting investors and boosting the local economy.<\/p>\n

Mr. Akurungo further revealed that plans are underway to equip the market with essential facilities including an abattoir, reliable water supply, electricity, and animal sheds to improve operations and ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese amenities will enhance the market\u2019s functionality and make it more attractive to traders and investors,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The DCE, however, cautioned residents and traders against engaging in the sale of stolen animals, warning that such activities could damage the image of the district and undermine confidence in the market.<\/p>\n

He urged livestock dealers and community members to work collectively to maintain integrity and discipline in the operations of the market to ensure its success.<\/p>\n

The commissioning of the new animal market is being hailed by residents as a significant milestone for the Kassena Nankana West District, with many expressing optimism that the facility will improve livelihoods, increase revenue generation, and position Paga as a key livestock trading center in the Upper East Region.<\/p>\n
