The Joana Gyan Cudjoe Foundation, in collaboration with the KN Foundation, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), on Thursday embarked on a major humanitarian outreach to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, donating assorted items and offering encouragement to inmates and prison officers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The outreach, described by organizers as a mission of hope, compassion and humanity, brought together former Black Stars players, football administrators, musicians, actors, business leaders, media personalities and dignitaries from across the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the visit, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central and Founder of the Joana Gyan Foundation, described the experience as emotional and life-changing.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday will forever remain one of the most emotional, painful, beautiful and meaningful days of my life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to her, the outreach was not organized for publicity or entertainment but rather to show love and support to inmates who often feel abandoned and forgotten by society.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis outreach was about humanity. It was about reminding inmates that they are still loved, valued and remembered. Many of them simply need encouragement, guidance and another opportunity in life,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The delegation, estimated at between 150 and 170 people, left Accra in the morning for the exercise and included former Black Stars legends, football supporters, sponsors, media organizations and invited guests.<\/p>\n

Hon. Joana Gyan revealed that it was her first time entering a prison facility, adding that the conditions and emotions she witnessed deeply moved her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cried almost the whole day. It was heartbreaking seeing the pain, regret and brokenness, but I also saw hope in the eyes of many inmates,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She noted that several inmates expressed gratitude to the team for showing them compassion and humanity during the visit.<\/p>\n

The outreach featured donations of jerseys and footballs for inmates and prison officers, tracksuits for inmate leaders, bags of rice, fish, drinking water and undisclosed cash support to aid the welfare of inmates.<\/p>\n

The organizers also commended prison officers and authorities at Nsawam Prison for their dedication and professionalism despite challenging working conditions.<\/p>\n

Hon. Joana Gyan further praised the collaboration between former and current football administrators, describing it as a symbol of unity and national development.<\/p>\n

Special recognition was given to former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi for his role in coordinating the outreach, as well as Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku for his support and leadership throughout the exercise.<\/p>\n

Football legends including Abedi Ayew Pele and Samuel Osei Kuffour were also part of the delegation.<\/p>\n

The event further attracted musicians and entertainers such as Dr Cryme and Patapaa, who joined the mission to inspire hope among inmates.<\/p>\n

Hon. Joana Gyan used the opportunity to advise the youth to value their freedom and avoid actions that could destroy their future.<\/p>\n

\u201cControl your anger, emotions and ego. Avoid violence and crime because prison is not a joke. Freedom is a blessing,\u201d she advised.<\/p>\n

Quoting Matthew 25:36, she stressed the importance of showing compassion to people in difficult situations.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody should ever be forgotten. Every soul matters and every life deserves hope, dignity and another chance,\u201d she added<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on traditional leaders at the Nsawam Palace, where they received a warm welcome from chiefs and opinion leaders in the area.<\/p>\n
