The Government of Ghana has congratulated Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson following his election as Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, describing his victory as a major milestone for Christian leadership, national unity, and peacebuilding in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rev. Thompson was elected during the Council\u2019s 2026 Annual General Meeting, ushering in what many within religious and governance circles believe will be a new era for one of Ghana\u2019s most influential ecumenical bodies.<\/p>\n

His election comes at a crucial time when religious institutions continue to play a significant role in promoting peace, moral discipline, and social cohesion amid economic and political challenges confronting the nation.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Presidential Envoy Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah described Rev. Thompson\u2019s election as a \u201cwell-deserved recognition\u201d of his years of dedicated Christian service and commitment to national development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe commend the Christian Council of Ghana for this significant decision and express confidence in Rev. Thompson\u2019s ability to provide strong, visionary, and unifying leadership as the Council continues its important role in promoting peace, moral values, national cohesion, and Christian witness in Ghana,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Government also reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with faith-based institutions to advance national development and peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the nation continues to strengthen collaboration between faith-based institutions and the State towards peacebuilding, national unity, and development, we look forward to working closely with Rev. Thompson, the leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana, and all ecumenical bodies for the advancement of Ghana and the well-being of our people,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The Office of the Presidential Envoy further paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman of the Council, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. B.D.K. Agbeko, praising his dedicated leadership and cooperation with the state throughout his tenure.<\/p>\n

Rev. Thompson is widely respected within Christian and academic circles as a theologian, pastor, educator, and administrator with decades of ministry experience in Ghana and abroad.<\/p>\n

Known for his calm demeanor, humility, and collaborative leadership style, he is expected to play a leading role in shaping national discussions on morality, governance, peacebuilding, and interfaith relations.<\/p>\n

Born with a passion for ministry from his youthful days, Rev. Thompson\u2019s journey into Christian leadership began during his secondary school and university years and has evolved into a distinguished career spanning pastoral work, theological education, and church administration.<\/p>\n

Academically, he boasts an impressive educational background. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish Studies from the University of Ghana and the Complutense University of Madrid in 1990.<\/p>\n

He later earned a Diploma in Theology from Maranatha Bible College in 1997 before pursuing a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies at Prairie Graduate School in 2000.<\/p>\n

In 2010, he completed a Master of Philosophy degree in the Study of Religions at the University of Ghana and later undertook leadership studies at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in 2020.<\/p>\n

His ministerial experience spans several decades. Rev. Thompson served at Messiah Baptist Church for 17 years, rising through the ranks from Administrative Assistant to Head Pastor. He also ministered at Hope for Life Christian Fellowship in Calgary, Canada, further broadening his international pastoral experience.<\/p>\n

Within the Ghana Baptist Convention, he served as Vice President in charge of Ministries from 2014 to 2022 and currently serves as Executive President.<\/p>\n

His influence on the global Baptist community was further strengthened in 2023 when he was elected onto the Executive Committee of the Baptist World Alliance during its Annual Gathering in Norway.<\/p>\n

Rev. Thompson has also contributed immensely to theological education, teaching and mentoring future Christian leaders at institutions including Maranatha University College, Prairie Graduate School, and Ghana Baptist University College.<\/p>\n

Colleagues and church members describe him as a people-centered leader with a deep passion for mentorship, theological reflection, and Christian service. Married to Mrs. Dina Thompson, the couple are blessed with four daughters.<\/p>\n

Observers believe his election will further strengthen the Christian Council of Ghana\u2019s role as a key moral and social voice in the country\u2019s democratic and developmental journey.<\/p>\n
