The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has successfully led a major road demarcation and opening exercise in Zuarungu Zono despite initial resistance from some local youths who opposed the project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exercise, carried out on May 19, 2026, forms part of the Bolgatanga East District Assembly’s broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at improving road accessibility and connectivity across several electoral areas, including Zuarungu Central, Duuligo, Yarigabisi, Zuarungu Moshie, and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n

Speaking Journalists after the exercise, Mr. Abugre explained that although the roads had long been captured in official planning documents, many had never been physically demarcated on the ground, creating uncertainty over their exact locations.<\/p>\n

“We only know where the roads are passing on paper, so there was a need to open them physically to ensure everyone knows the exact location of the roads.<\/p>\n

This will also ease access for community members and support development efforts within the district,” he stated.<\/p>\n

The exercise brought together officials of the District Assembly, personnel from the District Police Command, journalists, assembly members, and community representatives.<\/p>\n

However, upon arriving at Zuarungu Zono, the team encountered resistance from some youths and residents who objected to the exercise and blocked efforts to begin the road opening works.<\/p>\n

Rather than resorting to confrontation, the DCE and his team engaged the concerned residents in extensive discussions, explaining the purpose, benefits, and long-term impact of the project on the community.<\/p>\n

The dialogue eventually yielded positive results, with the youths agreeing to cooperate and allowing the exercise to proceed peacefully.<\/p>\n

“The initial resistance was overcome through calm and respectful communication. The cooperation we eventually received demonstrates the importance of community engagement in development projects,” Mr. Abugre noted.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the road opening exercise is expected to improve transportation, enhance accessibility, and promote economic and social interaction between Zuarungu Zono and neighbouring communities, particularly Kantia.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the DCE issued a strong warning to residents who have encroached on road reservations earmarked for development across the district.<\/p>\n

According to him, any structures deliberately erected on designated road corridors would be removed to make way for critical infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n

“Any structure found obstructing roads that have been reserved for development will be demolished. We cannot allow unauthorized construction to undermine efforts aimed at improving access and connectivity for our people,” he cautioned.<\/p>\n

Mr. Abugre therefore urged residents to cooperate with the Assembly’s development initiatives and refrain from building on public road reserves to avoid future demolitions and inconveniences.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to opening up communities through improved road networks and other infrastructure projects designed to enhance mobility and accelerate socio-economic development in the district.<\/p>\n
