The Managing Director of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL), Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, has embarked on a working tour of the Western and Central Regions to inspect three major water treatment plants earmarked for rehabilitation under a GH\u00a28.4 million project funded by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The inspection follows the signing of a rehabilitation agreement between GoldBod and GWL to restore the Bonsa, Daboase, and Sekyere-Hemang Water Supply Systems, which have experienced operational challenges affecting water production and supply.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation project, which was initiated after an independent technical assessment of the facilities, is expected to improve water production, enhance operational efficiency, and expand access to safe drinking water for thousands of residents in the Western and Central Regions.<\/p>\n

During the tour, Hon. Mutawakilu visited the Bonsa Water Treatment Plant, which serves the Tarkwa Municipality, the Daboase Water Treatment Plant, which supplies the Takoradi Metropolis and surrounding communities, and the Sekyere-Hemang Water Treatment Plant in the Central Region.<\/p>\n

The visits enabled management to assess the current condition of the facilities ahead of the commencement of rehabilitation works.
\nAt the Bonsa Water Treatment Plant, the Managing Director inspected the persistent siltation at the raw water abstraction point, a major challenge that continues to affect production.<\/p>\n

He also examined an improvised floating abstraction pump designed by engineers in the Western Region to sustain water production despite the difficult conditions.<\/p>\n

Commending the engineers for their ingenuity, Hon. Mutawakilu emphasized the need for a long-term engineering solution.<\/p>\n

“The innovation demonstrated by our engineers is commendable, but we need a permanent solution.<\/p>\n

The GoldBod-supported rehabilitation programme provides us with the opportunity to address these challenges sustainably,” he said.
\nBeyond inspecting the facilities, the Managing Director held separate meetings with management and staff in the Western and Central Regions to review operational performance and discuss measures to improve service delivery.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on key performance indicators, revenue mobilisation, billing and revenue collection, meter reading, customer service, reduction of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), staff accountability, supervision, and the effective use of performance monitoring systems.<\/p>\n

Regional managers presented reports highlighting their achievements, ongoing interventions, operational challenges, and performance outlook, while staff shared practical suggestions aimed at improving operational efficiency.<\/p>\n

Employees described the Managing Director’s engagement as a morale booster, saying the interaction promoted open communication, strengthened teamwork, and provided greater clarity on management’s expectations.<\/p>\n

Hon. Mutawakilu urged staff to uphold professionalism, innovation, teamwork, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.<\/p>\n

“Every employee has a vital role to play in improving operational efficiency and delivering quality service to our customers. The success of the GoldBod-supported rehabilitation project must be matched by a strong performance culture across the company,” he stressed.<\/p>\n

He noted that the nationwide engagement forms part of management’s broader strategy to strengthen staff relations, assess operational realities on the ground, and ensure that the GH\u00a28.4 million GoldBod rehabilitation project delivers lasting improvements in water production, infrastructure resilience, and reliable water supply for communities across Ghana.<\/p>\n
