{"id":2668,"date":"2021-11-23T17:58:18","date_gmt":"2021-11-23T17:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=2668"},"modified":"2021-11-23T23:31:18","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T23:31:18","slug":"confusion-yea-over-arabic-instructors-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/?p=2668","title":{"rendered":"Confusion rocks YEA over Arabic Instructors Cash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The usual delay of payment of stipends for some three thousand (3,<\/strong> <strong>000) Arabic instructors recruited to teach Arabic in basic and senior high schools, continues to be an issue years after their employment.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The instructors, who were recruited and validated by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in collaboration with the defunct Ministry of Inner City and Zongo, &nbsp;have had only one thousand (1, 000) on the payroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each beneficiary earns a monthly stipend of four hundred Ghana Cedis (400) but even that, some are in arrears for 21 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rest of the two thousand of the beneficiaries are still pending, yet to be paid their first salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recall that on January 5, 2018, under the Arabic Instructors Module of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) the Ministry launched the second phase of the Arabic Instructors Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme was to allow 3000 instructors to coordinate Arabic studies in basic and senior high schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme which was an initiative started by former President John Kufuor\u2019s administration was stalled under former President Mahama with the excuse of no funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the 2016 electioneering campaign, the then-presidential candidate Akufo-Addo promised to restore the programme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though it was successfully restored, payment of monthly stipends has remained a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;In the past few years, some of the beneficiaries have had reason to threaten to demonstrate across the country but the government assured them of payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"796\" height=\"645\" src=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-20211123-WA0142-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-20211123-WA0142-1.jpg 796w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-20211123-WA0142-1-600x486.jpg 600w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-20211123-WA0142-1-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/expressnewsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-20211123-WA0142-1-768x622.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAYBREAK has gathered that Zongo Development Fund quarterly transfers a total of 3,600,000 to YEA for the payment of these stipends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;That is besides administrative charges which bring it to more than Five million Ghana Cedis (GH\u00a25 million)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These amounts have been paid for 3 years bringing it to some GH\u00a243,200,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All these amounts have been paid to YEA including the administrative charges bringing it up over GH\u00a260M yet some of the beneficiaries are owed about 21 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All efforts to get the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to get the government to pay the outstanding arrears have proven futile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The instructors have been chasing him at almost every Islamic programme to ask about these stipends but there appears to be no hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Source: expressnewsghana.com<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The usual delay of payment of stipends for some three thousand (3, 000) Arabic instructors recruited to teach Arabic in basic and senior high schools, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":2669,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,82],"tags":[246,247],"class_list":["post-2668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-breaking-news","category-general-news","tag-confusion","tag-yea"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
